Welcome to Our Lady of Guadalupe’s Religious Education Program. We are here to serve you and your family as you continue to grow through your faith journey. Religious Education Program
- Catechism Schedule: English classes are held Wednesday evenings and Spanish classes are held Thursday evenings.
- K–8 and First Holy Communion: 6:00pm-7:15pm
- Youth Confirmation: 6pm-7:45pm
K–5: Children will discover God’s love and the promises He has for them. They will learn basic Catholic prayers and teachings as they form the foundation of their early faith journey.
Middle School (6-8): Youth will continue to strengthen their faith through challenging teachings and service opportunities. They will interact with other youth their age through retreats and events.
First Holy Communion and Reconciliation: Children must complete one (1) full year of catechism and be at least eight (8) years of age prior to this preparation. This is a family program where the parents and children take weekly classes and do workshops together to better guide the child towards receiving the sacraments. A detailed schedule will be provided in class. A copy of the child’s baptism certificate is required for registration.
Youth and Adult Confirmation: Candidates will go through a faith journey to strengthen their faith foundation and relationship with Jesus Christ. See youth confirmation requirements for more information. A detailed schedule will be provided in class. A copy of the confirmation candidate’s baptism certificate and sponsor permission are required at registration. The Adult Confirmation preparation is condensed into 10–12 sessions, beginning in early 2019, therefore, no more than one (1) absence is not allowed.
RCIA (Adult and Children): Anyone over the age of seven (7) who has not been baptized, will journey through the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults or Children to learn about the Catholic faith. According to their age, they will receive the sacraments during the Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday. A copy of the candidate’s birth certificate and godparent’s information is required. Godparents must attend a pre-baptismal class held the second Tuesday of the month at 7pm.
Family Nights: Throughout the year, there will be Family Nights to celebrate different liturgical, cultural, and traditional Catholic events in our community. We highly encourage parents to participate with their child.
Arrival and Dismissal: Children must be dropped off and picked up inside the Parish Hall, preferably inside their classroom, and not the parking lot. If children are more than 10 minutes late, they will be counted absent. Please be respectful to the teachers and pick up children on time. Always keep the Religious Education Office informed if your child will be absent or late.
Class Attendance: After three (3) class absences, parents will be called in for a meeting. This will delay sacramental preparation for the pre-communion, First Holy Communion, confirmation, and RCIA classes.
Mass Attendance: Our spiritual life strengthens when we go to Mass to remember God’s love and promises. It is important for families to celebrate the Eucharist every Sunday, on Holy Days of Obligation, and practice children’s’ prayers daily.
Class Cancellation: If there is inclement weather, we follow APS cancellation notices. We will do our best to update our social media to keep you informed.
Code of Conduct: We want to create and keep a safe environment at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. If you see or hear anything inappropriate from another child or adult, please contact the director or priest immediately. Your information will be kept confidential. All catechist and church volunteers are required to take the Archdiocese of Santa Fe “Circle of Grace Safe Environment Class.” Children must also take a “Safe Environment Class” to keep everyone safe and protected. Everyone is expected to behave respectfully towards their catechists, peers, themselves and church property. Electronic devices are not allowed during class time or any church related events. If an electronic device is confiscated, it must be picked up by an adult in the office. Food, drinks or gum are not allowed in carpeted area to keep our classrooms clean.
Preparation starts when youth are in high school over the age of 14 (Archdiocese of Santa Fe policy: www.archdiosf.org). Students must be fully committed to this program for the entire year. Since this is a one-year intensive preparation program, no more than one absence is allowed. Youth in confirmation classes will start at 6pm with their parents or guardians to hand out forms and important information before each teaching. Class will end at 7:45pm. Adults are welcome to join class with their youth. Throughout the year, youth will do activities, workshops and retreats together. They will be required to help and participate in family nights and church community activities. A detailed schedule will be provided in class.
